"Kingdom of The Sun" is The Phoenix Bridge at its most raw. From "Live" to "A Long Time For An Android", the album is angry, intimate, angst-ridden, poppy, progressive, and downright catchy to name a few, beginning strong and ending sweet.

Lead singer, Patrick Leaver, describes the album's flow as having a harsh, loud, brutish exterior with a soft heart at the center of it all. "(Writing the album) was a very therapeutic experience for me. I was dealing with a lot of loneliness, anger, and contempt during my writing process, and it shows in my work and my words. At the time, I felt that the only palatable or appropriate way to sort of play 'show and tell' with what I was feeling was to let it flow into the pages. "

With seventeen tracks, Kingdom of The Sun uses just about every minute allocated on a single CD. When asked about the length, Leaver laughed and remarked, "The original plan was to actually have double the amount of songs and to create a double album, however, we decided to scrap that idea once our ideas started to take on far too many shapes to be confined to a single release."

"Ultimately, the theme of the album is 'Rehab'. That can be interpreted in any way you want. It could mean a complete change in you as a person, after you've gone through many trials and tribulations, which is really what I was going for as far as my own personal meaning goes. The track listing of the album represents the back and forth of such a rehabilitating experience. You can't have change without initial resistance and regression. The beginning of 'Kingdom of The Sun' starts out loud, powerful, guns blazing, but by the end, it sort of shows an ultimate catharsis and resolution to the pain exuded from the first half of the album and ends on a beautiful, yet peaceful note. It symbolizes the pain you leave behind through growth. Artistically, I hope that comes through when people listen to it." (Patrick Leaver, when asked about the album's theme.)
